How Much Does A Swim Spa Cost?

This is often the first question people ask themselves before they decide to take the “plunge”. What many don’t realize, is that there are a number of budgetary factors to consider beyond the initial cost of purchasing a swim spa. While we believe that swim spas’ worth goes beyond the price factor, it’s important to know what kind of costs you’re looking at before you decide which spa to purchase.

Initial Costs

Swim spas are considered by many to be luxury items, therefore, the bottom line cost for your typical swim spa is around $20,000. However, high end models with a wide range of add-ons can get up to $60,000. Our Master Spas stay within a fair and reasonable price range from $20,000 to $45,000.Part of a swim spas’ cost is determined by the material used in the manufacturing process. Molded acrylic is a common material used for swim spas, and it requires a tremendous amount of effort to create the mold. The basic materials are coupled with the high cost of adding jets to the swim spa and the result is beautiful. We end up with the look and feel of an endless river, or natural water flow, and a bottom line cost of at least $20,000.Note, though, that not every swim spa is created using acrylic. Some well-known brands use tubs made from fiberglass or steel. The difference between acrylic spas and fiberglass and steel is that acrylic is paired with jets whereas the latter uses a motor for the current (which is loud, costs more and limits your swim techniques).

Upgrades

Some swim spa owners choose to add extra features that better fit them or simply make their experience more enjoyable. This might be something you’ll want to consider, especially if you enjoy speakers, WiFi and/or lighting options. The cost of one or more upgrades depends on what you choose and who your dealer is.  

Delivery

The cost to deliver your swim spa will depend on your location. Delivery pricing can be in the hundreds on the low end, and in the thousands on the high end. Please keep in mind that generally speaking, delivery cost does NOT include the installation fee.

Installation

Following the delivery, installation comes next. Installing a swim spa is no small feat. Because they’re usually fashioned with fiberglass or acrylic, they weigh a considerable amount. Because of their weight, you’ll want to make sure that you use a 6-inch-thick concrete slab as the base.Above ground swim spa installations are usually around $1500. Remember that you will also need a crane or forklift to place your swim spa, which will range between $1,000 to $1,500.Although in-ground swim spas are cheap to install compared to above-ground initially, in-ground installation costs between $2,000 and $4,000 (at LEAST double the price of above-ground).

Maintenance

Expect ongoing costs such as maintenance, repairs, electricity and chemicals. The cost will vary among manufacturers, depending on factors such as poor purification systems, uncommon filters, computer control system malfunctions and inefficient pump systems. The above tend to be results of low-end spas or spas where manufacturers cut corners and can add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars over time.At the end of the day, buying a cheap swim spa will end up costing you more over its lifetime. Remember that if you want a swim spa, it will cost you less in the long-run to purchase one that is quality as you will have fewer headaches with it.
